Preventing youth suicide will be a key focus of a new $115 million plan to tackle Indigenous health to be announced by Opposition Leader Bill Shorten on Thursday.

In 2018, Indigenous suicides accounted for 40 per cent of all youth suicides, despite Aboriginal youth making up only 5 per cent of children aged 17 or younger. The plan will give the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations a primary role in delivering culturally appropriate and regionally specific primary healthcare services, and will review their funding agreement with the Commonwealth.

Indigenous Australians 'have the right to grow old', Shorten says in funding pledgeLabor unveils a $115 million plan for Indigenous health, pledging nearly a quarter of that spending to help address the alarming rate of youth suicide. That's really gracious of Bill to let them grow old. Can he explain a bit more? The problem is that they also have the right to do stupid things to themselves that guarantee that they will not grow old. Sure stop the child molestations that trigger the suicides, but don't lie to yourself about the rest unless you take their sugar, booze and smokes away too.

Labor promising $200 million to make sure pathology tests remain freeInjecting $200 million into Australia's pathology system will make sure tests for cancer patients stay free, as Labor says the system is at breaking point. 9News Can the media please stop giving Bill's cancer and pathology lie oxygen. Everything he has said in both cases is a lie. The media need to call him out for this lie rather than help promote it. Everything will stay free as long as Bill doesn't get power. So money won't run out. Excellent announcement! This is desperately needed. Those complaining clearly have no idea how the funding for blood tests work. Blood tests are free now if he was going to make Histopathology tests free well that would be something but 200 million wouldn't last long so it's another hollow promise all p & wind no substance.
