KUALA LUMPUR: The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has apologised to a member and her family over an unpleasant experience where a cancer-stricken, bed-ridden woman was made to show up at its Johor Baru office to withdraw her contribution to the retirement fund.

“The EPF is deeply saddened and regrets the incident that went viral on social media. We apologise to the member and her family for having to go through an uncomfortable experience.

On Saturday, the patient’s sister, Nur Sheila Abdullah, said she was told that her sister had to be at the EPF office in person for a thumbprint scan before she could withdraw the balance from her EPF account. In her post, Nur Sheila detailed how she had to get an ambulance and stretcher to send her sister to the EPF office.

Too many a times authorities committed some questionable acts, all they do is apologize n move on. What about the steps taken preventing it from happening? How about bringing actions against the officer in charge?

Pathetic management. How can the country improve

Sorry your head la. After it had happened, sorry is just useless!

Does being 'humane' need to be taught? What kind of people are you!

A word of apology does not change the world for them.

Such a sad, sad thing to happen 😖 what is clear is the inability to think, in this case, the EPF staff. What has happened to us We as Malaysians needs to ask ourselves. Time we voice our concerns clearly... is there no compassion in us😟

Sorry jer

Sorry naik lorry lah

While I sympathize with the victim and her family and acknowledge that EPF should take some blame for the incident, there must be a significant amount of fraudulent claims that resulted in EPF behaving this way in the 1st place

That’s all EPF can say..sorry.. KWSPMalaysia

I can see the situation. Family told the officer that she's in hospital, officer kept on insisting that she must come n sign the document. Patient came in ambulance, EPF apologized? No wonder why DAP wants to reduce civil servants. Brainless with big ego. Not the first time
