Former Health chief Janette Garin, now Iloilo 1st district representative, asked Health Secretary Francisco Duque how long it took the Department of Health to have the Japanese encephalitis vaccine registered. Duque answered four months, as per the Food and Drug Administration . However, Garin contested this information, saying her copy of the official documents revealed it only took five days to process the vaccine certificate of product registration .
“As Secretary of Health, certain operational issues are things that we don’t get to closely monitor and so my apologies if you have the documents,” Duque explained. “There has been no product recall on the basis of deficient document submission and that the basis of the product recall is actually... adverse findings on the product itself,” he said.
During her term as Health secretary, Garin implemented a massive dengue vaccination drive to 800,000 students. But the following year, Sanofi-Pasteur announced that the vaccine posed potentially severe dengue risks among those who have not yet had the disease.
Garin is just promoting Sanofi.
