Iloilo Rep. Janette Garin confronts her successor, asking how come it only took the Japanese encephalitis vaccine five days to receive its certificate of product registration.

A former Health secretary has confronted her successor on the quick registration of another vaccine, while that of Dengvaxia was revoked despite a national dengue epidemic.

[Translation: Why are you making the process difficult for others while the Japanese encephalitis will only take five days from its submission to the issuance of its [certificate of product registration]?Duque apologized to Garin, saying he will hold his personnel accountable to ensure he will be given the right information.

On August 22, the DOH denied the plea of vaccine manufacturer Sanofi-Pasteur to reverse its decision to permanently revoke the Dengvaxia CPR. Duque earlier said the decision was due to Sanofi’s “complete disregard of FDA regulations,” citing incomplete requirements. However, during the hearing, Duque said there has been no product that has been recalled due to insufficient documents.

This runs counter to the agency’s decision to prohibit the marketing of Dengvaxia, Garin noted, to which Duque did not respond.
