Some fitness trackers are so unreliable they have been found to miscalculate the distance of a marathon by nearly 11 miles, new analysis by consumer watchdog Which? found.

Calibrated on a thread mill. The vast majority of marathon training runs are done outdoors with a GPS signal which will be much more accurate.

A bit sensationalist. It's a statement about empirically based estimate and gps measured data. Yes I ran 20km yesterday gps on my phone. My tracker which works on steps and assumed stride based on height thinks I ran 26km. Ground was rough .. shorter stride etc. Surprising?

They should know only moving your hands even when sitting will say you have done more than you have

Load of old bollocks What utter nonsense. Only if they had done all their training on a treadmill and chose to use their tracker's mile count over what the 'mill's dashboard says. The test was carried out on treadmills where they're not designed to be accurate.
