Summer is great for getting outdoors and soaking up tons of Vitamin D, but often all that sunbathing can lead to sun damage. Your skin barrier helps safeguard your complexion from harmful UV rays, but it is also the hardest hit by too much sun exposure.

Prior to going outside, a broad spectrum, water-resistant SPF with at least SPF 30 should be applied because this blocks about 97% of UVB rays and it also protects from UVA. A good rule of thumb is to apply SPF 30 minutes before sun exposure and then reapply it every two hours, and immediately after swimming or sweating. Do not forget SPF lip balm, sunglasses and a hat.
