By Amy Goldstein Amy Goldstein Reporter covering health-care policy and other social policy issues Email Bio Follow April 24 at 12:07 PM Most Americans want Congress to take action to lower their family’s health care expenses, rather than make sweeping changes such as adopting Medicare-for-all, or repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, according to a new survey.
Preserving consumer protections so that insurance is affordable for people with preexisting medical conditions also ranks high as something people want Congress to do, with nearly two-thirds of Americans supporting the idea, the poll shows. So does legislation intended to cushion patients from surprise medical bills, supported by 50 percent of the public, including nearly half of Republicans.
And asked about the most popular aspects of the law, majorities say they fear the effects if ACA were to go away.

Medicare-for-all is a great campaign slogan but when pressed for specifics there isn't anything appealing about it. Let's create a pool of money available for the poor, elderly, and pre-existing population, then allow insurers to create customized plans that their customers want.
