More than a million pigs have already been culled due to the African swine fever, according to official estimates.

A deadly outbreak of infection among pigs in China is expected to hit global bacon prices.

The country’s pig population is expected to shrink by a third, losing 130 million pigs by year-end, according to the‘This has been a game-changer,’ says Jais Valeur, group chief executive at Danish Crown, Europe’s leading pork processor, told the paper. ‘We’re only starting to see the real impact of African swine fever.’

International financial services provider Rabobank said the disease had now spread to every province in China after being first detected in August 2018.
