The union wrote to health secretary Michael Matheson MSP urging him to intervene to avert the radiographers’ strike at Hairmyres

Radiographers at Hairmyres Hospital are set to strike for the first time after crunch talks with the health board failed.

They have voiced concern about training on new equipment while feeling pressured to accept changes to rotas which, they fear, will leave untrained staff exposed. “Instead of basing rotas on their expertise and experience, managers have pressed on with a plan that has the potential to undermine the care of patients.

The radiography service provided at Hairmyres covers all of Lanarkshire, Ayrshire and Arran and Dumfries and Galloway. Therefore any strike action taken will not be localised to Lanarkshire.
