The health expert has said that the hormonal changes can see people deal with weight gain due to chemical changes in the body - but there is a way to avoid it.

Diet guru Michael Mosley has highlighted some easy changes that women can make to lose over a stone after going through menopause.

The expert said: "As your oestrogen levels decrease, your metabolism slows down which can result in weight gain, even if you haven’t changed the way you eat or move. "Studies have indicated that it is typical for general weight gain to occur during and after menopause. Additionally, while there is typically an ongoing gain in fat mass, there is also a loss of lean mass, which can continue to occur for several years after the menopause."

Michael also said that following his Fast 800 diet is also a positive way to change your lifestyle. He said: "Most of the people who have so far done thefast800 programme have been menopausal or post-menopausal women. "This is in line with other rapid weight loss programmes, like Droplet, carried out by researchers from Oxford University, which also started with 800-900 calories a day, for up to 12 weeks, before resuming more normal eating.Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
