Health Secretary Steve Barclay hints at health worker pay rise if radical NHS reforms accepted 🔴 Despite rejecting unions' demands this year, the Health Secretary said he was 'determined to talk about what we can do next year on pay'

The Health Secretary said he had invited unions to join talks this week “to discuss what is fair and affordable before we submit evidence to the independent Pay Review Body as part of our constructive approach.”due to hospitalisations from Covid and flu” this winter and that “inflation has made life tougher for the workforce”, he said discussions would be focused on next year rather than this year’s pay.

Using the Independent pay review Bodies process was “clearly the best way to do this”, he claimed because “spending each winter frozen in pay negotiations with the unions would take focus away from the other challenges the NHS faces”. He described the current wave of industrial action as an “unwelcome return to disruption” at a time “when we are trying to move the country forward, tackle the backlog and recover from the pandemic”.

Among the ways he said the Government hoped to increase productivity and efficiency cut waiting times was with the use of “virtual wards”, which he saw in action in Watford recently, where respiratory patients were monitored and treated from home. “When it comes to pay we’ve always said we want to talk about things that are reasonable, that are affordable and responsible for the country,” he said.

Beware, don’t be conned by those who have a different and hidden agenda. They need to come asking what they can do to restore the NHS to the jewel it once was. Not every service needs to be a money making racket
