Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones will not commit to any new measures that might immediately relieve the province’s health care system, which has been plagued by acute staffing shortages

Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones will not commit to any new measures that might immediately relieve pressure on the province’s overburdened health care system, which has been plagued by acute staffing shortages in recent weeks.

Ms. Jones, who was appointed to her post at the end of June, said there has been a “lot of work already done” to address staffing challenges. She said Ontario’s health care system has added 10,500 new workers since the start of the pandemic. “We will absolutely continue to work with the sector to make sure that anything and any changes that are forthcoming are going to help the system as a whole and not just one particular organization or part of the health care circle,” she said.

The wage cap during the COVID-19 pandemic prompted registered nurses to leave the province because they felt disrespected by the government, she said, adding that she was contacted by about 1,000 nurses over the weekend about the stark situations facing their hospitals.Ms. Jones said Only 24 per cent of patients were admitted to hospital within the target time of eight hours. On average, patients in May had to wait 2.1 hours to be assessed by a doctor in the emergency room.

Total hospitalizations because of COVID-19 decreased slightly across the province last week from 507 admissions to 402. This was the first weekly decrease since the start of the pandemic’s seventh wave.

They keep not hiring qualified foreign nurses. The problem is IMPOSSIBLE to solve!

… or any fixes at all

What has the Health Minister been doing ? Doesn’t he get paid very well to do his job? How on earth did they not realize this was coming We knew 5 (plus) years ago!!

When governments give money to our health care most of it goes to administration. It needs to go to the front line workers. Physician’s and RNs need to be paid a bit more. As well there needs to be zero tolerance to verbal abuse from patients and their families!!!!

They have had two-and-a-half years to prepare for this.

Actually there is. Start accepting Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees from the Phillipines and other countries with equivalent education to us. Sure, make them write an equivalency test, but other than academic arrogance, there is no valid reason Canada bars these graduates.

Ontario health minister refuses to acknowledge whether hospital shutdowns are acceptableOntario’s health minister broke weeks of silence on Tuesday afternoon to address growing hospital emergency room and intensive care unit closures. However, she would not acknowledge whether the series of shutdowns is acceptable. It's because they already know the answer to this question. Of course it's not acceptable for emergency rooms to close. Healthcare is a provincial responsibility and the provincial government should be doing everything in its power to avoid this situation and to help remedy it. It's a Puzzle You refuse to hold fordnation accountable as per usual
