Vaccinated couple in hotel quarantine beg to see dying father

Mark Kilian and his wife Anneli Gericke are currently in hotel quarantine in Sydney after travelling from the US to visit Mr Kilian's dying father.

"We were on the plane taxiing and just about to take off and they decided to call us and say no you've been rejected," Mr Kilian told Nine.com.au. "We didn't think he was going to make it through yesterday, I think he'd been holding on for us to get there,' Mr Kilian said.Mr Kilian said his sick father weighs just 44 kilograms and has stopped eating.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has asked her counterparts to show compassion when it comes to granting border exemptions but said she will not intervene in specific cases.

I'm sorry for the family, but I don't think they will change there mind. A government that takes a newborn away from its mother because they are afraid of the virus will also have no respect for a dead sick dad. Only as PM you can travel and enjoy pubs! ! ! !

This country and its so called premiers need their heads banging together, so inhumane, we have gone from being one of the worlds most admired to the equivalent of North Korea - the man is dying, they’re vaccinated, they’ve chartered a private plane, what more can they do?

Shame on you QLD! Premier Berejiklian & Premier Palaszczuk would this play out differently if it were your father or family member? What happened to The Golden Rule? Treat others as we want to be treated?

The science has shown that being vaccinated doesn’t stop you from getting the virus or passing it on. It just reduces the impact on you. I don’t know if it also reduces the spread

So.....the point of getting vaccinated is?

I scoured the whole article but failed to find any mention of any attempts being made by the reporter to seek comments from Queensland Health. Shouldn't you try before reporting the story?

It's a damn shame, but I'll be forever glad it's only the occasional family that has to suffer this, and not hundreds of thousands like in the US where their governments and populace were too ignorant to act accordingly and appropriately in the face of a pandemic. AloneTogether

My 89 year old mother, my sister and neice were in a car accident. Multiple broken ribs, broken sternum, haematomas, my mother was in hospital for over 6 weeks. On the night of the accident we weren't allowed to see them and for a week and half. It's hard but understandable.

That’s why there is hesitancy to vaccinate! It appears that only Labour states are at extreme end=WA/QLD

Absolutely heartbreaking and frustrating. Look at the evidence on vaccinations. Do you think you know better than rest of world? Vaccinated, travelling privately and visiting a dying father, what risk is there to the community?
