In this photograph taken from behind a window, doctors work on COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit of San Matteo Hospital, in Pavia, northern Italy, Thursday, March 26, 2020.
We also identified several independent patient- and hospital-level risk factors for death. Patient-level risk factors included characteristics like older age, being male, obesity and cancer. Many people will hear that statistic about a three-fold higher risk and say,"If I get COVID, I want to make sure I go to a big hospital." Would you want to temper that reaction with any sort of caveats?
But would you say that it's a reasonable takeaway, that it's probably a better bet to go to a hospital with more than 50 ICU beds?
commonhealth Don’t make it about race, because in SoCal most colores people live in the big cities with big hospitals. 2nd. Just because you test positive does not mean your symptoms will result in hospitalization or death. 3rd the picture at the beginning of the article is from March
commonhealth Teams of specialists experienced in COVID 19 from New York should provide cosults to the smaller hospitals. It would reduce the deat rate.
commonhealth gut this fish Send a message to repressive and elitists leaders by charging Trump with CrimesAgainstHumanity
commonhealth Isnt this true for most conditions? Maybe even greater risk for people with heart attacks etc
commonhealth Thank China folks. They goal was to bring us down.
rhonda_harbison commonhealth That makes sense. They don't see the same things as the larger teaching hospitals do. Do they don't have the knowledge, skills and manpower.
commonhealth Just do less tests and boom, more icu beds’ll open back up. It’s foolproof
commonhealth The solution is obvious. They just need to put out enough folding cots to reach that magical 50 number. Problem solved. Covid is crazy. It can hang in the air for 12 hours, it knows if someone is less then 6' apart and now it can count icu beds. Whoa
commonhealth They are coming from every direction and being told over and over. NO MORE!
commonhealth All hospitals are contaminated w Super bugs.
commonhealth This is why Trump wants to take control over COVID19 statistics from CDC. If that happens he will be able to 'control' his version of fake news that COVID19 is going away & we do not need so much COVID19 testing.
commonhealth Some valuable takeaways, if your not into reading the article
commonhealth Correlation does not equal causation. Most likely explanation is staff at larger hospitals (with more beds) are just better trained and have more polished procedures. Let's not pretend that our initial COVID__19 response with the overuse of ventilators likely killed thousands.
commonhealth This literally means nothing and is only designed to scare people.
commonhealth This is what my instincts told me and to see it confirmed makes me feel better about making the drive to a world renowned hospital.
commonhealth Except it's not happening..
