Ontario will move ahead with its controversial municipal funding cuts for public health and child care next year. Premier Doug Ford is expected to make the announcement later today.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford speaks during a closing news conference at a meeting of Canada's Premiers in Saskatoon, Sas., Thursday July, 11, 2019. TORONTO -- Ontario will move ahead with its controversial municipal funding cuts for public health and child care next year.

Premier Doug Ford is expected to make the announcement later today at a gathering of municipal leaders in Ottawa. The Progressive Conservative government tried to force retroactive funding cuts this year but had to cancel them after municipal leaders complained their annual budgets had already passed.

The new plan will see all municipalities -- including Toronto -- pay 30 per cent of the public health care costs. Under the initial plan, Toronto would be on the hook for 50 per cent of the cost. Starting on Jan. 1, 2020, municipalities will also have to pay 20 per cent of the cost of creating new child care spaces, which the province previously fully funded. The Tory government has said the funding cuts are necessary in order to tackle the province's $11.7-billion deficit.

Ya mean the money spent on the Open for Business signs didn’t work, the buck a beer and tailgate party allowance didn’t generate revenue either?

Tell the whole story please not just sound bites to scare people .Yes there will be changes but there was also some good benefits in the speech for municipalities Balance please CTV.

Bravo DougFord Toronto City fat-ass Councillors looted citizens for decades

Yeah right!

The municipalities have been given ample warning that the cuts are coming Be interesting to see which respond in a partisan manner and which respond in a professional one.

Are the cuts a measure to help with Ontario's economy or to punish the municipalities who have been vocal about this government's failures?

Provincial ‘Progressive’ Conservative Premier Ford announces cuts to public health and child care. How commendable. He should be so proud to make this announcement.

this guy is working hard for ontario to be strong and healthy..

Hey, again, as long as its the Ford voters that are mostly affected fine with me

Trudeau will love this. Another card in his hand.

Thanks Dougie! You are just putting another nail in the coffin of Sinister Sneer!

Great love it keep it up Ford

Ford is cutting public health and childcare to give tax cuts to the wealthiest few. He's not even reducing the debt, as he likes to claim. He just wants to give tax breaks to people who don't need it. And Scheer says he's working toward the 'same goal' as Ford. Unbelievable.

Well done DoFo. Spend more on the budget than Wynne, increase the size of your government by 25%, give all your MPPs raises. Standard Con practice - cut taxes for corps and the rich. Cut funding for public health and childcare. fordnation: Fuck the People

Good! It's either that or we go bankrupt.

Thanks for increasing our taxes premierdougford you need to start addressing how WSIB is costing healthcare dollars!

What a brave man Doug Ford is. He knows how the left will lie and smear him for this. And yet he still has principles.. you can hate him or the conservatives but you have to admit they have principles.

Good, keep cutting gov't spending. Then shrink the size of gov't and then lower taxes and regulations.
