The Department of Health (DOH) is conducting an investigation with regard to the death of one student and hospitalization of seven others in Surigao del Norte after undergoing deworming.

Health Undersecretary Rolando Enrique Domingo said that they stopped the conduct of deworming activities in Surigao del Norte. While the DOH Regional Office is conducting is investigation.The health official said that toxicology tests are now being conducted on the batch of deworming medicines that were used.

“They sent them here in Manila for testing in order for us to determine if there was poisoning or if there was a toxic substance ingested by the students that caused the illness and subsequent death of one patient,” said Domingo. The victims were reportedly students of San Isidro Elementary School in Surigao del Norte and had undergone the deworming activity last July 23.
