The Department of Health (DOH) said that the suspension of the gaming schemes of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will only have a minimal impact on the implementation of Universal Health Care.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the PCSO’s contribution to the UHC funding is only at one percent.

The health chief furthered that the amount of P3 billion could even be smaller during the first year of implementation of the UHC because the PCSO will allot half of the said amount to pay for its liabilities. Duque, meanwhile, said that the PCSO contribution will still be an important component for the full implementation of the UHC.

Current fund sources for the UHC include the DOH budget, PhilHealth premium contributions, Philippine Amusement Gaming Corporation and PCSO.
