As a trauma surgeon -- Dr. Williams Hogue -- has seen her share of shooting victims. Her experience recently got her an invitation to D.C. to meet with the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which was established last year. She was one of more than 80 healthcare executives and providers who met at the White House on June 6th.

While they don’t always make it -- so far this year 47 gunshot victims have survived -- that’s according to Mobile Police. Dr. Williams Hogue says on average 40% of gunshot victims will come back due to gun violence -- of those returning 20% will be deadly. “These are kids that have been through a lot and have all sorts of experience that kids perhaps shouldn’t have.
