What is simplicity? For me, it means filtering out things that are not important, not necessary, and distilling down to what is essential

. The level of noise and complexity appears to only be getting louder and more significant. So many seemingly straightforward tasks seem to be getting harder and taking more time, energy and effort to achieve.

There are many reasons for this, and some we cannot control. But there is one thing in our power to change, and that is to make things asWhat is simplicity? For me, it means filtering out things that are not important, not necessary, and distilling things down to what is essential.? Well, it means that we have the physical, emotional and mental space to focus on what really matters. We can see things more clearly and our brains don’t have to focus on so much at once.

Think about a machine that is constantly working overtime, even when it is not necessary. Eventually it will overheat and fail. We want to be “on” when it is needed and “off” when it is not. Otherwise, there is a risk of stress, overwhelm, burnout and a higher risk of mental health impact. Why is it so hard to achieve simplicity? Modern life does not encourage it. There is a push to have this or that, to sign up for things we may not need. Our society pushes the idea that the more we have the better we are, the more we strive and work, the more we are successful, and the busier we are, the more important we are. In all this noise, it is hard to spot that this is happening, and even harder to make a choice to step out of it all.

Don’t get me wrong, I know there are things in life that are complex and necessary, and responsibilities that we cannot get out of. But where you can, try to identify what you could simplify and then make choices on how to act., and we all need to be around people, but the level of online interactions and the number of platforms where we can be contacted is overwhelming. Choose one of two ways of being contacted. Turn off notifications on your phone, other than essential ones.
