KUALA LUMPUR: The first batch of contract house officers (HOs) completed their two-year training at the end of last year but many say they have yet to receive appointment letters to a contract or permanent medical officer (MO) post.

These HOs, who trained from December 2016 to December 2018, are worried that they cannot get government housing loans because of job insecurity, or government sponsorship for post-graduate studies, said Malaysian Medics International chairman Dr S.S. Vikkineshwaran.

He said some doctors have been informed that the criteria for permanent position selection have not been decided. He said doctors who completed their housemanship within the three-year contract would have another two-year contract of compulsory service as an MO. “As such, the officers are responsible for carrying out their duties as MOs and qualified for allowance that permanent MOs get,” he said.
