The state’s health system is under increasing pressure but the NSW government will pump millions into understaffed hospitals.

The NSW government will spend $274 million to staff so-called ghost hospitals – impressive buildings delivered by the former Coalition government but which Labor says were never allocated enough doctors and nurses to properly service them.as some patients attempt to dodge the cost of going to the GP by heading straight to hospital with minor ailments.An extra 250 healthcare workers will be deployed in hospitals in the next 12 months under the funding package, part of the June 18 state budget.

The newly built Tweed Hospital on the North Coast will get an extra 10 health workers for an expansion of overnight and day beds, as well as a boost to emergency department and outpatient services. That hospital was built for $723.3 million in partMinister for Health Ryan Park with Leppington MP Nathan Hagarty, NSW Treasurer Daniel Mookhey and Liverpool MP Charishma Kaliyanda at Liverpool Hospital on Sunday.whooping cough cases surging in the general community.

The $274 million earmarked for hospitals is in addition to $480 million the government has committed to spend on programs designed to keep patients out of emergency rooms. It aims to reduce trips to hospital by 290,000 each year by expanding other options for patients.
