LOGAN COUNTY, Ohio — At least 43 horses are dead after a barn caught fire Saturday afternoon in Logan County, Richland Township Assistant Fire Chief Jason Johns said.

Firefighters were called to Brant Performance Horses on State Route 638 in Belle Center around 12:15 p.m. for reports of a fire. When crews arrived, they saw a 60,000-square-foot barn fully engulfed, CBS station“ whole building was not safe to go into. There are living quarters inside. They had a horse arena inside, and it was all fully, fully involved...We could not make entry,” Johns told WHIO.

As of Saturday night, Johns said 43 horses were killed. That number may change as recovery efforts are made. One person was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment. They were later transferred to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
