Concern has been expressed over whether such treatment to help those who are dangerously overweight will be cost effective.

Mounjaro, a medication that is used to help treat type 2 diabetes, has been reccomended to help dangerously obese people lose weight on the NHS.

In April, the Scottish Medicines Consortium, which advises NHS Scotland on licenced medicine, approved tirzepatide for prescription to treat type 2 diabetes. An Eli Lilly spokesperson confirmed that the company is "pleased with the progress in the Nice process", and adjusted that "the consultation process is ongoing, with another committee meeting scheduled for August 13".
