Men’s decisions also affect fertility patterns, says Zeynep Gurtin, lecturer in women’s health at UCL

The trend for later motherhood is continuing apace. This week, the Office for National Statistics released new data on conception rates for women in England and Wales, showing that teenage pregnancy rates continued to decline in 2017, and that, for the first time, more women are getting pregnant in their 30s than in their 20s. But perhaps the most striking trend concerns fortysomethings, the only age group – for the second year running – whose conception rates are on the increase.

Because flares are closing down all the country

Many women get themselves into this position. The postpone motherhood, families and even relationships to prioritise their “career” or to travel/have fun. Then in their 30s many of the decent men are married already. So they have to wait for them to come back onto the market!

Can't afford to have babies earlier. Damages our careers, reduces our incomes so much, that at 40ish, we are only barely able to afford it.
