Operations at the plant at Ayer Ganda were immediately stopped as instructed by the National Water Services Commission.

IPOH: The Perak Water Board stopped operations at the Ayer Ganda Water Treatment Plant in Gerik at 6pm on Tuesday following the discovery of arsenic, a type of heavy metal, in Sungai Rui.

According to a statement from LAP, operations at the water treatment plant were immediately terminated as instructed by the National Water Services Commission. The statement said the LAP would provide treated water for over 1,000 residents of Kampung Ayer Ganda using tanker lorries and static tanks. In the long term, it added, LAP will build an 11.5km pipe and pump to channel treated water from the Lawin Water Treatment Plant to Kampung Ayer Ganda.

It said the board is committed to ensuring that the quality of water supplied to consumers is safe for consumption.
