In a statement issued on Thursday , LAP's management said the treatment plant was shut down on Tuesday.
"We are aware of the statement by the National Water Service Commission to shut it down due to the pollution issue. "LAP respects and will adhere to the decision," a spokesman said after SPAN chairman Charles Santiago ordered the immediate shutdown of the plant on Thursday. It was reported that low levels of arsenic were found in water samples taken from Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak.A LAP spokesman said water samples taken from the Ayer Ganda water treatment plan showed traces of arsenic that were below the standard set by the World Health Organisation, which is less than 0.01mg per litre."Our next plan is to supply treated water to the 1,000 Kampung Ayer Ganda folk with tanker lorries and water tanks," he said.
"For the long term, we plan to build a 11.5km-long pipe and water pump to supply treated water from the treatment plan in Lawin," he added.
