by Jaie Avila / News 4 San AntonioWhat if you could buy a multi-million dollar piece of property for only one thousand dollars? However, Bexar County passed up the chance to purchase one of its most important buildings for just a thousand bucks.

Instead, the county chose to stay in the building without a new lease until February of this year, when a new agreement was signed by County Judge Peter Sakai, which no longer contains a purchase option. “There's absolutely no reason for this to have happened, more people should be outraged over this," she said.

We were told he was unavailable and no one else in county leadership could talk to us because the decision had been made years ago. The current lease agreement between Bexar County and the UT Health Science Center San Antonio for the Medical Examiner’s Office building, 7337 Louis Pasteur Dr. is for 5 years with a 5-year renewal option that Bexar County can exercise at will. The lease agreement technically expires in 2029 but can be extended to 2034.
