The state's expert witness also said the bullet trajectories cannot be used to reconstruct portions of the scene, namely the height of the gun that fired at AllFAIRBANKS, Alaska - 18-year-old Brett Allen died of a shot to the right side of his chest from an indeterminate range, Forensic Pathologist Kenneth Gallagher testified Tuesday at Rabinowitz Courthouse.
The 47-year-old allegedly leveled a pistol at Allen’s head after Allen approached his car in response to a verbal insult. Allen reportedly grabbed his own firearm, and Peterson attempted to remove the gun from Allen’s grasp, with a round purportedly shooting into the air from Allen’s pistol during the exchange.
In photos presented to the jury both Monday and Tuesday, the windshield of Reed’s car can be seen with two relatively circular glass-shattering patterns, and officers recovered one bullet from inside the vehicle. Gallagher said the evaluation could not determine the range from which the bullets were fired but solidified that the fatal shot hit Allen in the right side of his chest.
