A decision by the HSE to introduce a three-month recruitment freeze to help 'manage costs' has been described as 'extraordinary' and 'unacceptable'

In a letter to senior HSE directors, the Deputy Director General of the HSE Liam Woods said the decision is based upon the financial pressure in the system arising from the high levels of recruitment in 2018, and the consequential impact in 2019 and the need to live within resources.

He said there is a lack of nurses, doctors, specialists and consultants right across the HSE so a 'crude instrument' like a recruitment ban, when there are obvious shortfalls, is simply unacceptable in the extreme. The letter also states that the ban will not apply to hospitals that have credible financial plans in place, meaning it only applies to those that are overrunning on their budgets.

He absolutely denied that senior managers, who should have been looking after the hospitals, were not doing their job because they were up before committees for issues such as the Cervical Check scandal. Mr Kelly said those managers had to be held accountable.

This is horse 💩.... Local areas have had recruitment embargoes for the past number of years, despite the HSE claiming otherwise.... The whole system is a mess and getting worse. They've been recruiting from the Philippines, India, and the EU and no money for home grown staff.

What's the hse building up near heuston I heard its full of pen pushes doing nothing

Ah yes. Another clever decision by people at the top.. Not.

Liking Alan's new sorority look.

Most of the money used in the HSE is used up on office workers doing fuck all . people on desks doing nothing and getting paid huge money .with the backing of there unions there untouchable .it's not reaching patients

HSE need a lot more hospital consultants have enought nurses and managers....With a €17 billion annual budget should have a better health service....

Manage costs perhaps if some of the top dogs took a pay cut ? Our hospitals are understaffed as it is

Did a recruitment freeze ever occur when Alan was in cabinet?
