Kate Middleton has been bestowed with a significant new royal title from King Charles as she continues her cancer treatment.
The duchess is the first Royal to be appointed a Royal Companion in the order's 107-year history, the Mirror reports. Current members of the order include Sir David Attenborough, Margaret Attwood, Dame Judi Dench, Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John, and past members have included Professor Stephen Hawking and Sir Winston Churchill.
The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, believed to date back to the eighth century, was formalised by King George I in 1725. The Order of the British Empire, established in 1917 by George V, is the UK's largest order of chivalry, recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to their local communities or on a national scale.
The other appointees include Lord Kakkar, Emeritus Professor of Surgery at University College London; Air Chief Marshal the Lord Peach; and the Duchess of Gloucester, who is married to the late Queen's cousin the Duke of Gloucester, as a Royal Lady Companion.
