Rochester, N.Y. American Medical Response announced Friday it has fired an employee following an internal investigation into an incident last fall that resulted

Video shows a man appearing to suffer a medical emergency after being asked to leave an AMR ambulance on Seneca Avenue in Rochester, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023. The man later died. Mayor Malik Evans is calling for an investigation into the incident.

Video released by the City of Rochester last month shows a man, who was having trouble breathing, being asked to leave one ambulance Nov. 30 on Seneca Avenue and wait on the street for another to arrive and take him to the hospital.In the video, an officer is heard explaining to the man that the EMTs wanted him out of the ambulance. One EMT told an officer the patient jumped at her, grabbed her and wouldn't let go. The patient explained to the officer he couldn't breathe.

In addition to firing one employee, AMR said two other employees will undergo "remedial training and corrective action." AMR is taking immediate steps to update and enhance our company policies, offering clear guidance to responders in managing the patient-provider relationship. A detailed evaluation of our company’s operational protocols, policies, procedures, and training programs is underway, as is an examination of human factors that may come into play. At the conclusion of our review, we will promptly implement any and all necessary changes.
