They say Ms Mohammadi is protesting repeated opposition to a hospital transfer for for what they is "urgent medical care"."She has not been granted permission to be transferred, while, according to the diagnosis and echocardiogram of a trusted doctor of the prison , she has been in need of emergency transfer to the heart and lung centre for urgent medical care," they said on social media.
She says she is also highlighting the Iranian Republic's policy of "delaying and neglecting medical care for sick inmates".Ms Mohammadi's husband,Taghi Rahmani, confirmed the hunger strike on social media adding: "Is Narges Mohammadi's death program in progress?"The 51-year-old won this year's Nobel Peace Prize winner for her work against the oppression of women in Iran.
"The requirement that female inmates must wear a hijab in order to be hospitalised, is inhumane and morally unacceptable," she said in a statement."The Norwegian Nobel Committee urges the Iranian authorities to provide Narges Mohammadi, and other female inmates, with whatever medical assistance they may need."In a letter published by the committee last week, Ms Mohammadi said the compulsory hijab is "a means of control and repression imposed on the society".
