Ketamine, which was originally used as a horse tranquilizer, will be used as a nasal spray to treat patients who do not respond to traditional depression medications.

Party drug Ketamine has officially been approved as a treatment for depression by US government officials.

The esketamine nasal spray Spravato is manufactured by Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson He said patients will get an esketamine dose twice a week for the first four weeks, but if they show signs of improvement the use will be lowered to once every week or two.
