Today , Katalin Karikó, a Hungarian scientist, and her American colleague Drew Weissman were awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Medicine. Their research enabled the rapid development of mRNA-based vaccines, including those used to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Karikó and Weissman were chosen by the Nobel Assembly of Sweden's Karolinska Institute Medical University."She said, 'But you work so hard'. And I told her that many, many scientists work very, very hard.
The vaccines shielded individuals from severe illness and mortality caused by the virus. In the US, over 655 million doses of mRNA vaccines have been allocated since December 2020, combating SARS-CoV-2.
