Scott Morrison has become the first Prime Minister to visit Christmas Island, where he reaffirmed the government's goal to bring medical transfers from Manus Island and Nauru to the immigration facilities.

Scott Morrison told reporters on Wednesday that he had been pleased to be able to close the facility last year, but said Labor's part in passing the medivac bill has required his government to reopen it. Since the Medivac bill, which gives doctors more say in transferring refugees and asylum seekers for medical treatment, was made law on Friday no applications for medical transfers have been submitted.

A disgraceful waste of public money. PM is determined to ignore the issues and concerns of mainstream voters. Please bring on the election ASAP.

Advertising to people smugglers. Cant help getting the impression that the PM is really hoping boats start coming so he can say 'I told you so' .An election stunt and a very expensive one at that.

He has us in a recession so wtf are you praising him for?! He has to go!

That stunt cost us $60,000- a nurses salary!

scaremongering

He might as well have been inspecting his own arsehole. Moronic low rent stunt, desperately wasting more taxpayer money campaigning now before the coward has to call the election.

and wow a big taxpayer spend to get there for a political stunt of what!

It was a stunt.
