Spoiler alert: it wasn't horrific at all. Taiwan has has a system people say works exceptionally well.

By Eli Rosenberg Eli Rosenberg General assignment reporter covering national and breaking news Email Bio Follow February 28 at 10:50 PM The Facebook post was illustrated with an image of an IV. “Went to the ER in Taiwan,” it began.

“Each day since I’ve gotten progressively better and am now pretty much back to normal,” Bozeat wrote. “The bill for the ER visit? . . . U.S. $80.00.” Bozeat estimated his treatment in the United States, without insurance, would have likely cost thousands of dollars. Only around 6.1 percent of the GDP in Taiwan is spent on health care; in the United States, one of the highest levels of a developed country, it’s around 17 percent.

How reckless could he be, travelling abroad (to the tropics!) without ant health insurance?

台灣萬歲

P.S. The tricky part is figuring out how to create a system like that here.

This is sad for WP to compare 4rt world medicine with USA socialize or otherwise the horror would be same

Opposed to the wondes of westen medicine, and it's $10 headache pill

So he didn't pay into their medical system and reaped benefits from It? What a leach.

I heard waiting lists for specialty surgeries is horrible.

A story of one person does not adequately cover this topic. This is anecdotal reporting at best, story-telling at worst. More like Reader’s Digest than a news outlet.

Tell that to the Democrats!

👍

Hysteria Americana.

What kind of bs article is this? There are many other countries who offer socialized health care successfully.

I broke my neck in Miami got a $196,000 bill. Came back to England and had 6 months intensive rehab FREE.

The 1% and their lapdog the GOP want the poor, disabled and elderly dead They will destroy this country b/4 they allow national health care to pass

this man should put up exactly what he went through if he wants us to believe him!!

This is the kind of health care every person deserves in the USA.

More Fake News

We have real and clear horrors around our current system.

I’ll tell you the real f*cking horror. I got a bill for $21k for appendicitis even though I left hospital 5hrs after surgery cuz I didn’t have insurance. That I suffer every day cuz I can’t afford back surgery. That people are dying cuz they don’t have coverage. FU.

People need to actually read the articles not just the headline! Know what you are talking about before commenting! JFC!

He was in Taiwan. Don’t get it twisted

Guys you gotta actually read the story. There's a reason the headline is in quotes

I wonder why the VA doesn't emulate the system in Taiwan?

So set it up and let those who don’t want it, opt out. If you want medical bills you can have them. If you want to contribute collectively and get no sudden bills, then don’t opt out. And regulate to ensure parity of service between the two.

It’s Taiwan! Maybe try Canada or France, or Norway, etc, etc, etc, Jeesh

If only we could had what they have. I am so disgusted with my country that only upholds the rich and discards the rest of the people. Healthcare is a right.

I hope people in America hear what you have to say

Spoiler alert: the title is sarcastic. His story is a glowing endorsement of the care he received. In case anyone read that literally.

Taiwan is not a socialist country. Delete this steaming pile.

Why don't you put the SPOILER as the headline? So sick of misleading headlines.

Jesus Christ is going full fox news as of late.

I don’t care. Taiwan is not the USA.

Hmmmm How many people are willing to die for their false beliefs about socialism?

Taiwan also only has 23 million people... not 350 million...

It’s great as long as you don’t need it.

It's. Taiwan.
