The running back changed his eating habits and weighs five pounds more this season, noticing the difference in his sleep, recovery and on-field performance.

THOUSAND OAKS — When Cam Akers arrived at the VEA Resort for the start of training camp, the Rams running back struck an imposing figure. In a white tank top and purple and black thigh-high shorts, the newly refined definition of his muscles was on full display.

In July, Akers said to wait until he’d had his first practice in pads before he could say how his new muscle impacted his play. So far, he’s noticed a difference playing at 217 pounds as opposed to 212 in 2022. Akers’ work was cut short Wednesday during the Rams’ joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. Akers got into a fight with defensive end Maxx Crosby, who had followed him downfield well after a play and tried to punch the ball out of Akers’ hands.
