Central Ohio issued an air quality alert day after some of the worst air quality we have had in over a decade."These particles can actually cause significant health effects," Dr. Loren Wold with the department of surgery Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center said. "Those that are most sensitive are with pre-existing health conditions as well as the elderly and young.""The air feels a little thicker," she said.
The last time central Ohio has seen these types of large pollution particles dates back to august of 2010, and experts think another alert day will be sooner rather than later. "I think that we will likely more of these really high air quality index days than we have before," Dr. Wold said. "Those concentrations or exposures can ad together and actually over long term has been shown to affect, the heart, the lungs and the brain."There are a few important things to remember: You should limit outdoor activity-such as running or biking, avoid mowing your lawn or using anything gas powered, and don’t burn wood or leaves.
