MOH to table control of smoking products bill on June 12

Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa says without the generational end game provision in the proposed Control of Smoking Products for Public Heath Bill, the cost to treat smoking-related diseases will escalate to RM8.77 billion. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, June 6, 2023.

She also said the Health Ministry had incorporated all 23 proposed amendments and added five new suggestions to the Bill. Elaborating, she said the bill still retains the generational end game provision, affecting those born on January 1, 2007 onwards. “This move shows that the government is committed to implementing the GEG, which also receives the support of many, including civil society groups, professional bodies and associations,” she said.
