Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos will ask the provinces today whether or not they intend to accept the new health-care funding deal tabled by the prime minister.

Duclos and Mental Health and Addictions Minister Carolyn Bennett are to write to the provincial health ministers seeking some clarity on their positions.presented an offer that would see transfers to the provinces rise by $196 billion over the next 10 years.

The proposal falls well short of the demand from the provinces for the federal government to shoulder a much greater share of health care spending. Still, most premiers indicated they were disappointed but are likely to accept the offer because they can't say no to new money. Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson says the premiers will meet again on their own to discuss the deal within the next few days.

I do not trust the federal government with my medical files. They have over 3 years, shown their ability to abuse power and misuse information. My health record is between me and my doctor, private. As should everyone else’s. (1/2)

Conservatives won’t say whether federal share of health-care budgets should increaseAhead of talks Tuesday between PM Trudeau and premiers, Conservative MP wouldn’t comment on whether his party would uphold the deal They aren't the freaking government, for crying out loud. Because if they commit now then they won't be able to jump up and down and yell at the liberals when the liberals do it. And that is their go to campaign strategy so they don't want to give that up. “Tories won’t say whether federal share of health-care budgets should increase” Why would Poilievre & Co. take a stand on health care? It’s not an issue many Canadians care about. I’m sure that medicare is an abomination to a cradle to grave politician like Poilievre.

Ford says new federal dollars for health care only a 'down payment on future discussions'Premier Doug Ford says that the $46 billion in new health-care funding that Ottawa has offered the provinces is a 'starting point' but should be viewed as a 'down payment on further discussions' only. How does any of this fix inflation 'Trudeau has offered to shift $196 billion to the provinces...over the next decade in exchange for their commitment to upgrade health-care data collection and digital record keeping'. No thanks. I don't trust this corrupt government to keep my data private and not misuse it. Trudeau is giving more to indigenous communities with no accountability. At least healthcare everyone benefits from. I’m not aFord fan but the Feds need to really step up and spend where it’s actually needed and will benefit the most.
