As negotiations continue between premiers and the federal government, former Quebec premier Jean Charest is criticizing the feds' string-attached approach to health-care funding, stating that Ottawa should not be in the business of operating health-care systems.

As the minority Liberals plot out their policy moves ahead of the 2023 parliamentary sitting, weighing heavily are commitments Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made to NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh that have to be acted on this year in order to uphold the two-party confidence-and-supply deal. Here is what needs to get done to keep the deal alive.

Governor of the Bank of Canada Tiff Macklem says he thinks Canada is 'turning the corner' on inflation, but he isn't ruling out that the country could enter a 'mild recession.' In an English-language broadcast exclusive interview with CTV National News Ottawa Bureau Chief Joyce Napier, Macklem encouraged Canadians to prepare a 'buffer' to withstand 'tougher times.

The chances Trudeau's health-care summit with the premiers will end with the blueprint to realistic long-term improvements are only marginally better than believing China’s balloon was simply collecting atmospheric temperatures, Don Martin writes in an exclusive column for CTVNews.ca, 'But it’s clearly time the 50-year-old dream of medicare as a Canadian birthright stopped being such a nightmare for so many patients.

Ironic coming from the Quebec premier who is infamous for taking federal money and following it with a tax cut. Without strings the federal government, and thus taxpayers, will not get the value they deserve for their money

It's also very risky if they don't.

To say he is completely irrelevant is an understatement

Who's this guy and why is he relevant?

How else are you going enforce accountability?

With all do respect, why are we listening to M. Charlest on on this?

Risky.. For who The Government gave 4 BILLION to our province and they 'lost' it.. YES STRINGS attached are needed we as taxpayers are sick of having OUR MONEY wasted/lost on what? Oh yea nobody knows..

Should not be a risk. It should be a given.

With the Premiers that are in power...there needs to be a strings attached policy, ask the auditor general..they're crooks.

It's all about central control contrary to the spirit of Confederation. T wants to dictate who gets money, how much, and for what while he spends money like it grows on trees. He wants accountability but is unwilling to be accountable himself.

Jean your Alsheimers is setting in. Cons governments want no strings so they can put Healthcare $ into General Revenue so they can grossly reduce filthy rich corps taxes!!!!!

It's because they can't be trusted with the money...says this Albertan.

I thought we got rid of this dinosaur?

I see Alsheimers setting in. Just like all Cons Premiers who want Healthcare dollars to give to their filthy rich supporters and not fund Healthcare properly!

This guy shouldn't get any public time, why are you quoting him?

Easy for you to say, Jean, seeing as you don't live in Alberta.......

As if you know.
