is urging people to stop using EzriCare Artificial Tears that may be linked to 55 cases of a drug-resistant bacterial infection in 12 states.infection, one died after the bacteria entered into the bloodstream, and one person is permanently blind, according to the CDC.
While patients reported using more than 10 different brands of artificial tears, the CDC said the majority of them used EzriCare Artificial Tears, a preservative-free, over-the-counter product packaged in multidose bottles that is sold over-the-counter. “Testing of unopened bottles of EzriCare Artificial Tears is ongoing to assist in evaluating for whether contamination may have occurred during manufacturing.”saying it is not aware of any tests that definitely links the infections to the EzriCare Artificial Tears, however, it is stopping the distribution and sale while the outbreak is investigated. The company also said it is cooperating with the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
