Improvements to the Nanaimo’s Dover Bay Secondary are now complete, with the addition of four classrooms, a fitness centre and gender-neutral washrooms.“The board of education appreciates the province’s commitment to improve and modernize our students’ learning environments,” said school board chairman Greg Keller.
“With the completion of the addition, Dover Bay Secondary is now better equipped to support our increased enrolment with more classrooms and additional flex space, and provide improved inclusivity and accessibility through updated washroom facilities.” Parksville-Qualicum MLA Adam Walker said schools are “the heart of communities” and the work done at Dover Bay will ensure students have the learning space they need. The new classrooms will allow 100 students to move out of portables.
Previous school projects in the district include $35 million for seismic upgrades at Cilaire and Pleasant Valley elementary schools, and a 12-classroom addition at Hammond Bay Elementary. Dover Bay is the the city’s second-largest secondary school with about 1,540 students in Grades 8 through 12.
