Leaked employee survey shows issues with senior leadership at Island Health

Posted: Jan. 17, 2023 7:15PMA new Island Health employee engagement survey, leaked to CHEK News, paints a picture of a serious disconnect between Island Health employees and its senior leadership.with 11,000 employees responding. While the results haven’t been made public the document highlights a feeling among staff that the organization doesn’t view health and safety as important, doesn’t recognize or value employee contributions and is lacking in communication.

“Our nurses are feeling very disrespected by the employers. Lack of support, heavy workloads and just the recognition for what nurses have been doing throughout the entire pandemic, the opioid crisis as well as the staffing crisis,” said BCNU President Aman Grewal.Less than half agreed that Island Health cares about the well-being of its employees, and even fewer agreed that communication between senior leaders and employees is open and honest.

The head of Island Health says she’s grateful for the feedback, that the employees have been heard and that change starts at the top.Sign up for our newsletter to get breaking news and daily digests sent to your email.“I’m taking this very seriously, I feel very accountable,” said Island Health CEO Kathy MacNeil. “Culture starts at the top so this information will really inform our work with respect to culture.

I could tell you how terrible upper management is by 1 public fact: Still wont hire un-mRNA-COVID-injected workers. Thats pure stupidity. Stubborness. When unable to admit wrong, you will never improve.

We have a new manager at Victoria MHSU that can’t be bothered to get to know the employees or listen to them either (except for a few select pet employees). Ego is too big & she knows-it-all apparently! islandhealth great job on employee engagement there! 👍

I have to concur. It isn't just senior staff members, the rot trickles down to mid-level and lesser management. If I didn't have a big mortgage I'd find something else. Being financially trapped is probably the only way they retain employees!

Lol, that information had to be leaked to know and see problems in the senior leadership. Talked to any employee that works the front line for island health and they’ll tell you how bad things are.

That is completely true. It’s not about nurses but leadership in Island Health management and nepotism. The leadership is nothing but the FBI ( Friends, brothers, in-laws ) and that’s easy to show, just look at the management tree. This is not new The Vector report was clear.

Wow, they fire 30% of their long term employees because they failed to get the JAB. Sorry folks, it's all about money and not health care.

I hate to say this but I’ve never seen an employee survey that indicated staff were happy. And the usual action after negative survey results is a lot of boring meetings to make people feel included.

And there is layers of them!

I work at NRGH and don't have a high profile job. I don't need recognition from management or those considered above me. What i would like is the odd ' Good Morning ' or ' Thank You ' the absolute basics.

😂😂😂😂😂 Ya Think? Kathy MacNeill, Tyrant
