Plan to get faster access to cataract surgery, MRIs, hip and knee surgery has backing of doctors, hospital executives and medical experts.

The plan, to be implemented over three steps, will see community clinics — both private and not-for-profit — begin expanding their surgical capacity this year. It starts with almost 20,000 new cataract surgeries, 900 other eye surgeries, 1,000 gynecological surgeries, and 2,845 plastic surgeries such as hand reconstruction. From our newsroom to your inbox at noon, the latest headlines, stories, opinion and photos from the Toronto Sun.

Ontario currently performs about 3% of surgical procedures outside of hospital settings while British Columbia and Alberta both hover around the 20% mark. Quebec is also moving in this direction and began contracting out surgeries to be performed in private community clinics during the pandemic.

There are 900, private surgical and diagnostic clinics and 3 private hospitals in Ontario, these 3 where grandfathered in 1970, when new private hospitals where banned, public hospitals, can’t handle the present 250 thousand requirements

How is our healthcare system working for us now? People are dying in emergencies waiting rooms left and right. Just keep it that way?

millions of Ontarians wish they had option to be able to chose. Private is not Public. Public subsidizing Private means shareholder value like LTC facilites. Profiteering by reducing costs. Lowering your operating costs by being funded with public money.

Lilley defends Doug Ford. Hey Lilley do an investigative piece not opinion piece or quoting someone else’s hard work. Do Doug Ford and the greenbelt fiasco. Contesting bill 124 decision. Opening door for private clinics to be subsidized by public funds. What’s in it for him.

Yup, the Convoy Cons do it again Grifting off of the vulnerable.

so much trouble ahead they will lose the most important workers in the hospitals , nurses , respiratory therapists and technicians to the private system , wait if you think it is bad now just wait. Doctors have always been for money

Weird the College Of Surgeons & Physicians Of Ontario seems to think differently.

DougFord opens the door to the creed of greed. Canada's public money is now a loot for private business to grab. The future of OHIP is at risk under the mercy of Ford's policy of funding starvation to feed the banks and insurance businesses. Real bad news for Canadians.

Money always talks

No they don't, go to a Alex Jones wannabe.

sure

Not true. Most have already spoken out against this plan and have stated it will further strain the public healthcare system.

Yep, that is right, should shut those tick tock health care workers up, anyone wants to work will get paid.

Literally nobody with an ounce of common sense is backing this halfbaked plan

No they don’t

As long as OHIP pays for it and NO surcharges, why are the looney left freaking out?

And health and a bureaucrats back more of the same old same old, with more spending

You mean anyone whose about to get more richer lol ?

Meanwhile, us east coasters are dying off in waiting rooms. unbalancedhealthcare wepaytaxes wedoourpart doyours

Say it all, machine waits!! Organ free!! Astriddcollection investigations!!

And the unions and Jagmeet Singh said it was the worst thing possible.
