Residents of downtown Ottawa are once again calling for the elimination of a major trucking corridor, citing concerns about air pollution and its impact on public health.

Natasha Bakht, a resident of Cumberland Street, which is located near a truck route in the heart of the city, says the fumes from passing trucks have made her sick.

For years, residents have complained about the transport truck corridor that cuts through Sandy Hill and Lowertown. Hundreds of trucks travel along Rideau Street and King Edward Avenue every day. Environmental lawyer and uOttawa Professor Lynda Collins says that the fumes, pollution, and large truck traffic violate residents' human rights.

Where are we suppose to drive then? This is the ONLY path between Ottawa and Quebec... You got everything else blocked for us... If you want to close this access you better open one on the ease side and one on the west side.

Same people will complain about product shortages of something they want or need

Residents?

And pollution only happens in downtown Ottawa?

Omg the ppl of ottawa aka the capital of Karens

I don't love it when trucks rumble down my narrow residential street, but they have to go somewhere. Not sure where else they could go in that part of the city.

I think you better start having a headline news for those killed and injured by the vac Turd state tv.

Build a tunnel from the Queensway over to QC to move them better and have two lanes for car traffic and one each way for bicycles and walking.

They won’t be happy if they remove the route as the groceries stores or any store won’t have any supplies or it will take longer to get them in. People just like to complain.

This will likely never happen. This has been an issue for more than half a century. The City simply cannot get its act together and does not see the socio-economic benefit/link to develop a new route outside of the city core.

How do they expect to get groceries and other goods? Do they think they magically appear in the stores?

I don't understand, do they not want their stores stocked with food? Their shops stocked with products?

How about we tackle the homeless issue downtown. Traffic 90% of the time is screwed up down there because of cracked out method out SICK homeless people. Jwalking panhandling etc.. oh the environment same the planet.

Hope that lawyer gets disbarred for this bullshit. Tell your client to move to the country side.

I don't like trucks there either because it creates such a traffic headache, but its the way she talked about. it's been this way forever and shes making it seem that the trucks just one day decided to use this route. they probably had this route before she decided to move in.

Choose where you live very carefully

“Citing air pollution”… haha you guys.

I’d say let’s revisit the tunnel idea - breathing less toxic fumes could be good.

Assumedly the same people who are opposed to building a new bridge & corridor to 417? However here's a novel idea...

And just WHO will deliver your goods? Next up, Residents of Downtown Ottawa will call for an elimination of ALL vehicles tl the downtown core. If you have concerns, move maybe?

An alternate route should have been constructed years ago.Truck drivers aren't keen on driving through the congested downtown Ottawa to transit to Quebec for deliveries. This is has been an ongoing thing since the 1960s and using Wellington, King Edward and Rideau adds congestion.

And the homeless

City people have no concept of reality....

How do you expect to get food to stores? No foresight.

Let’s eliminate trucks but ask for 300,000 public servants to come back downtown. Makes sense.

Fair, but what neighbourhood is going to signoff on the trucking corridor? Orleans ain't gonna accept it, even though a bridge between Gatineau and Orleans would be amazing.

Trucks delivering in downtown are not the problem. The problem is a constant stream of transport trucks cutting through from Quebec to the 417. People have been killed by these trucks. Make them use a different route or build a bridge!

Like the ones who move out to the country and complain about wild animals 🤦‍♀️

Just wait how many of these people will next move to the country and bitch about the sounds and smells of farms. I’m gonna bet the truck route was there long before they were. TruAnon HonkHonk

Is this trucking route new? I seem to recall it being there for the last 50+ years. Problem is these same people don’t want to see a bypass from 417 to Quebec which is the only solution.

Jeezus. When will it end? I'm gonna move to the airport area and complain about the flight noise.

It’s easy close the border to the dark side !

Nothing happened in 100 years, why now?

Great idea

Shut the truck door… are you kidding me Move people…. Move…. … Oh and I guess the grocery stores, LCBO etc will have cars deliver their products. 🤔

Oh look a Truck my feelings are hurt the truck is violent. Give me a break. So no delivery trucks should ever be present downtown at all ever. Not even to supply the core anymore zero emissions so the snowflakes feel safe

The entitled, privileged residents of Ottawa are asking the trucks to take a less efficient, more costly and worse for the environment route because.... wait for it.... they're a little put out by the noise and traffic. Shocking.

You downtown dwellers are sounding like the biggest bunch of whiners.

Hahaha air pollution my god what a bunch of new weak individuals in this generation. Complain complain and whine about everything.

Residents have moved downtown knowing the truckers use the downtown core. Unless they can come up with a plan that does not cost anything to anyone else…. Go ahead… otherwise move

Move to uptown then...

Don’t forget phantom honking syndrome.

How will all restaurants in the downtown core get their food? How will food trucks offer delicious food? How will fire trucks get down there? If you don’t like the fumes, maybe move in the country where you can inhale cow manure all day

Its not like the truck route is a new thing. Sounds like a 'you' problem living dwntwn in a known route. So move your ass out of the core. And do better research while you're at it

why move into a building at the busiest intersection in the city (nothing new by the way) and then complain about traffic and fumes?

those condo towers are an eyesore. demolish them and put more greenspace there. the city center is no place for high density housing.

Whiners that have nothing better to do.

Residents of Downtown Ottawa Live in A Dream World… I loved living in the St. George in the 90s when I was hauling long haul out west. Wouldn’t catch me living there now But I do still enjoy trucking on through weekly. Listen for the HonkHonk

Lol human right violation 😂😂😂

My car any transportation the city runs

Just be patient..the city will have this taken care of in the next 20-40yrs. lol. But I wouldn’t count on it. (See LRT)

Ctv news comes theough again with hard hitting journalism. Never failing to cover all sides of the story, media bailout money well spent.

🤡/10

The trucks are a menace for anyone wanting to enjoy downtown. Heading down to Rideau Centre or the Ottawa Art Gallery you are surrounding by large transport trucks blocking intersections and making terrifyingly tight turns.

please re-adjust the world to suit my, and only my, requirements.

Ironic that the downtown residents are talking about their rights when they had no problem squashing the trucker's convoy who were also fighting for their rights. 🖕

Terrorism, right?
