GEORGE TOWN: Seniors, those with comorbidities and pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should get their second Covid-19 booster, says family medicine specialist Dr Nazihah Mohd Khalid.

She said that given the presence of Covid-19 variants, namely BA.5.2 and BF.7, which are currently infecting China, those considered high risk should not delay getting their second booster shot.

“With more people getting their second booster shots, we can have herd immunity to protect those who cannot get vaccinated,” she said when met at the Jalan Angsana health clinic in Ayer Itam.“The Pfizer vaccine is highly recommended by the Health Ministry. She added that the public’s response to the second booster jab had been slow compared to the first booster shot as the country was entering the endemic phase.

According to the Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal, as of Jan 3, a total of 16,280,730 people have received their first booster dose and only 2% of the total population have received their second booster dose.
