PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 1,161 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday (Dec 15), says the Health Ministry.

Data released on its KKMNow portal early Friday showed that this brings the cumulative total to 5,014,885 cases since the pandemic began.

Of the 1,161 cases, there were three imported cases while the remaining 1,185 were local transmissions.There are currently 16,811 active cases, of which 15,749 individuals are undergoing home quarantine while 1,004 individuals require hospitalisation. Of this number, 58 are warded in intensive care units throughout the country, with 34 requiring ventilator support.

There were three fatalities recorded, which takes the Covid-19 death toll to 36,787 since the pandemic started.
