New method identifies spatial biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease progression in animal model broadinstitute NatureComms

All images were obtained with a Leica TCS SP8 confocal microscope and with a 40× objective. The voxel size is 0.0946 × 0.0946 × 0.3463 μm. Propidium Iodide staining was applied according to the manufacturer’s protocol. A detailed protocol of the experiment can be found in the STARmap PLUS paperWe used 3D chromatin images to obtain nuclear features and associated these features to plaque size using the regression gradient.

. For each cell, we used all the z-stack images and cropped the horizontal directions to 37.84 × 37.84 µmcentered at the cell centroid. After min-max scaling to [0, 1], the 3D stack of each cell was further cropped to 18.92 × 18.92 µmin the horizontal directions. The images were resampled in the z-direction to have isotropic voxels. Then we applied Gaussian blur, spot detection, a second Gaussian blur with sigma set to 3, Otsu thresholding, and Voronoi labeling.

Dark-field chest X-ray imaging for the assessment of COVID-19-pneumonia - Communications MedicineFrank, Gassert et al. use dark-field chest X-ray imaging to assess COVID-19-pneumonia. Dark-field imaging has a higher sensitivity for COVID-19-pneumonia than attenuation-based imaging and provides an ultralow dose alternative to computed tomography imaging for that purpose.

Use of a glycomics array to establish the anti-carbohydrate antibody repertoire in type 1 diabetes - Nature CommunicationsType I diabetes is characterized by autoantibodies directed against protein or non-protein self-antigens. Here the authors profile glycan reactive anti-carbohydrate antibodies (ACA) in a longitudinal and cross-sectional childhood diabetes cohort and associate clusters of ACA with disease progression. physorg_com MCG_AUG NatureComms . To prevent the cascade of preterm birth, risk of sepsis, treatment with aminoglycosides antibiotics, such as gentamicin, followed by type 1 diabetes, maternal exposure to environmental pollutants, gut microbiome health and nocturnal melatonin production need to be addressed. .
