❝ We need to understand that the expanding Catholic healthcare system in Ireland will never provide treatment forbidden by the church even if it is legal in the State

Today, over 90 per cent of our primary schools are under Catholic patronage but are State-funded. Catholic faith formation is part of the curriculum. Approximately 50 per cent of secondary schools operate under Catholic ethos.

How can it be right that when you send a child to school in Ireland the the default position is “you are a catholic” you will here this ideology every day or sit in the corner and draw apicture it’s ridiculous practice you’re chosen religion in your own time

I’m atheist, I think they have done outstanding work in our healthcare/education over decades. I work in a hospital and this Christmas no crib was put up with the traditional decorations for fear of offending. Is that not what it’s all about, wouldn’t offend me!

The state collects the tax for healthcare, so if the Catholic Church is a provider, they should obviously get their share. Look into the spiralling funeral costs in Ireland instead, and ask yourself what the state contributes to those, except means-tested 'benefits'!
